1. Your Business

Assess the size of your business according to the following criteria:

Business Size Turnover Employee Headcount
Micro ≤€2 million <10
Small ≤€10 million <50
Medium ≤€50 million <250
Large ≤€100 million <1000
Global €100+ million 1000+

According to the FCDO, an SME (Small to Medium sized Enterprise) is defined as:
"any organisation that has fewer than 250 employees and a turnover of less than €50 million or a balance sheet total less than €43 million."

The FCDO also sets out guidelines as to what constitutes a Mediu, Small, or Micro sized business. I have added the additional categories of Large, and Global sized businesses.

I take it on honour that you will assess your own business accurately and honestly; bear in mind that if your company publishes its finances or employee count publicly, that information is accessible to anyone to check.

The reason my rates are so much higher for Large and Global sized businesses with deeper pockets is primarily because this allows me to offer free and greatly reduced rates to much smaller businesses, charities, and local community organisations that have extremely limited or zero budget.

3. Training Length

Each training session comes in the following lengths as standard. Breaks are included in the session time. Q&A's at the end of the session are not included in this time. (See section 7 below.)

Session Hours Minutes Breaks
Mini .75 45 None
Quarter 1.5 90 1x 5 mins
Standard 2 120 1x 10 mins
Half 3 180 2x 10 mins
Full 7.5 450 4x 10 mins, 1x 60 mins

4. Training Styles

Training style refers to the format, style, or approach of the training.

Presentation - Consists almost exclusively of me speaking, with very little opportunities for attendees to ask questions, offer comments, or actively participate. "Presentations" are best suited to shorter sessions ("Mini" or "Quarter"). Compare this to a "TED Talk" style of training.

Workshop - By far the most popular option, this style includes opportunities for attendees to participate, ask and answer questions, offer thoughts and comments, and engage in interactive activities. Activities may include breakout groups, online quizzes, interactive games, etc.

I specialise in making online training workshops stimulating and engaging; do not expect to simply be presented with a PowerPoint and a dull lecture. Since 2019 I have been integrating a number of cutting edge technologies into online training formats to allow kinaesthetic, as well as visual and auditory, learners to participate. "Game-ifying" training also allows the more introverted and unforthcoming trainees to have their voices heard, often without even having to speak.

Consultation - These sessions consist of a loosely structured agenda with key learning points, but are mostly designed to engage in intense discussion, and to find targeted solutions for specific problems or concerns the client has.

5. Venue

Training "venue" refers to whether the session will take place exclusively online, live and in person, or a hybrid.

Online - I have experience hosting online training in the majority of the most common online venues. (Zoom, MS Teams, Webex, Google Hangouts, Miro, etc.) The client may provide access to the hosting application, or I can provide my own.

In Person/On Location - These sessions will be held live and in person, at the physical venue of your choosing. The client is responsible for booking and paying for this venue themselves. This option also incurs additional travel expenses. (I will provide an estimate of those potential expenses ahead of service delivery, and invoice for them immediately following delivery, along with receipts or evidence of expenses.) Expenses will be modest and reasonable.

Hybrid - The same as In Person training, except this option provides for additional attendees to participate remotely. The client is responsible for providing the technology required to make this possible, and for arranging for appropriate support staff to manage it. However, I can arrange to provide my own equipment, and/or agree to manage some or all of the hybrid amenities, for an additional fee.

7. Q&A

Training sessions do not automatically include a Q&A at their conclusion. "Workshop" style training , and Consultations, allow for spontaneous interruptions and queries to be posed during the session. If you think there will be a need for Q&A at the end of a session, please allow for an additional 30 minutes after your main booking. I charge a flat fee of £100 for Q&A's.

8. Follow Up

It is not uncommon for trainees to be oversaturated with information at the end of a session, meaning they need time to process and integrate what they have learned. They may be so busy listening and absorbing new knowledge they are unable to articulate coherent questions during or at the end of a session. In these cases, managers/training coordinators may wish to collect questions and collate feedback to submit to a trainer some days after the session.

For a flat fee of £200 I will make myself available to you and your trainees for up to two weeks following a training session. I will provide comprehensive answers to any serious questions put to me during these two weeks; I aim to respond within 48 hours. (I reserve the right not to respond if I believe questions are not posed in good faith.)

9. Discounts

I offer discounts for bulk orders of training.

If you book 3-5 sessions with me I offer a 20% discount.

If you book 6-12 sessions with me I offer a 35% discount.

I like to encourage repeat customers. If you have received a session from me within the last 12 months and you are booking further sessions, I offer an additional 5-10% discount.

(Eg. if you are a returning client and you book 6 further sessions, that booking may be as much as 45% off!)

10. Working Within Your Budget

As stated previously, the quote calculator is only designed to give you an idea of what the maximum cost of a booking might be. It is my "first offer" where we begin our negotiations. EDI training should be available and accessible to everyone, in every field of employment, workplace, educational setting, and casual organisation. Lack of funds should not be a barrier.

My clients with bigger budgets and deeper pockets are charged at slightly higher rates so as to subsidize clients who have far more limited funds.

However, please understand that a great deal of work has gone into assessing the fairness of these fees - fairness to the client, and fairness to myself and my co-trainers. A great deal of unpaid time and labour goes into preparing these high quality training sessions; you are paying not just for the hundred or so minutes I spend sitting in front of you actively speaking, but for the hours, days, and years spent researching, studying, designing, and refining each session. I believe my fees are an accurate representation of the value I give.
